Our Story

1982

Whyte Cargo began in 1982, when William “Wullie” Whyte started his own cargo handling with four grain belts and an RB22 crawler crane. With experience in farming, involvement in cargo handling operations, and support from his wife, Jennifer, Wullie had the knowledge and background to get the operation off the ground.

A large cargo ship is docked at an industrial port. Cranes are lifting materials onto the ship, and piles of heavy chains and equipment are seen on the quay. Several vehicles and workers are present.

1995

In 1995 an opportunity to work in Montrose opened, and from there Whyte’s depot in the town was established, opening opportunities in the oil and gas sector as well as with bulk cargo. A year later, Whyte added its first Liebherr crane to the fleet, and has kept updated with these cranes ever since.

2012

In 2012, Wullie and Jennifer’s grandson, Daniel, joined Whyte Cargo, which had been his ambition since childhood. Over the years he worked across operations on the quayside, organically moving up to managing director with support from his family and team.

Present Day

Today, Daniel oversees the operation of Whyte Cargo, building a legacy for the future generation as his grandparents did for him. The business is active in all aspects of cargo handling operations and is available in all ports across Scotland to support efficient, safe and smooth cargo handling solutions.
